NFL 2026 Roster — Updated September 3, 2026

Reconciled against real active rosters as of the 2026 season opener — every team’s 53-man roster plus practice squad and injured reserve verified against ESPN. September 3 v5: a full league-wide reconciliation after training camp and the cut to 53, with ~270 team changes, 550+ players released to free agency, and 40+ un-retirements. Headliners: Aaron Donald back with the Rams, Stefon Diggs to the Commanders, Keenan Allen to the Colts, Za’Darius Smith to the Falcons, L’Jarius Sneed to the Chiefs, Bobby Okereke to the Panthers and Deebo Samuel to the 49ers, plus duplicate-record cleanup. July 1 v4: caught up on every post-draft move through July 1 — the June 1 blockbusters (Myles Garrett to the Rams, A.J. Brown to the Patriots), 20+ contract extensions (Mahomes through 2033, Jeffery Simmons, Drake London and more) and Russell Wilson’s retirement. Earlier passes set all 2,636 contracts from Spotrac and reconciled every roster against ESPN with a 99%+ match rate. Starts at the 2026 regular season.

Era

Montana Era — 1994 NFL Season

The NFL's first year with a salary cap ($34.6M). Steve Young wins MVP and Super Bowl XXIX, Joe Montana's farewell season in Kansas City, Jerry Rice at his statistical peak in San Francisco. 28 teams: Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman's Cowboys go to the SB, Barry Sanders runs wild in Detroit, Dan Marino throwing darts in Miami, Brett Favre's first full season in Green Bay with Reggie White and Sterling Sharpe, John Elway and Shannon Sharpe in Denver. Every team's 1994 roster stamped with real player identities — Montana, Rice, Steve Young, Emmitt, Michael Irvin, Bruce Smith, Rod Woodson, Derrick Thomas — across all 28 franchises. Cap scaled to era dollars, Los Angeles Raiders and Houston Oilers play in their real 1994 homes.

V1 (Jul 18): Head coaches are real 1994 HCs. 28 teams — no Ravens, Jaguars, or Panthers (expansion 1995–1996). Powered by nflverse historical data: ~1,500 real 1994 NFL players on their real 1994 teams. OVRs inherit from 2026 base, not historically tuned. Note: LT (Lawrence Taylor) retired after 1993 — 1994 is the Steve Young/Rice/Montana era, not Lawrence Taylor's peak.

Era

Greatest Show on Turf — 1999 NFL Season

Kurt Warner comes out of nowhere to lead the St. Louis Rams to Super Bowl XXXIV — Warner, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Orlando Pace, all stamped on their real 1999 slots. 31 teams: Jeff Fisher's Titans go 13-3 and reach the SB (One Yard Short), Peyton Manning's year 2 with Edgerrin James rookie, Randy Moss year 2 terrorizing Minnesota, Dan Marino's final season in Miami, Brett Favre in Green Bay, Steve McNair and Eddie George in Tennessee, Jevon Kearse's monster rookie year, Barry Sanders' last NFL game in Detroit. Deion Sanders on the Cowboys, Tony Dungy's Tampa 2 defense — across all 31 franchises. Cap at 1999 levels ($57.3M), Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers in their era-correct homes.

V1 (Jul 18): Head coaches are real 1999 HCs (Dick Vermeil on STL, Jeff Fisher on TEN, Tony Dungy on TB, etc.). Powered by nflverse historical data: ~1,700 real 1999 NFL players on their real 1999 teams. OVRs inherit from 2026 base, not historically tuned. Cleveland Browns are the 1999 expansion team (2-14 in real life).

Era

Tom Brady Era — 2007 NFL Season

Travel back to 2007 — Brady’s 16-0 regular season with Moss + Welker, Manning still in his Colts prime, LT chasing the rushing record in San Diego, the Mannings vs Brady storyline at full volume. Every team’s 2007 roster is stamped onto their real-life slots: Brady, Moss, Welker, Brady‑era Patriots; Manning, Wayne, Harrison, Addai, Freeney Colts; LT, Rivers, Gates, Merriman Chargers; Adrian Peterson rookie year on the Vikings, Patrick Willis rookie year on SF; Romo + T.O. + Witten in Dallas, Brees + Reggie Bush in NO, Favre + Greg Jennings in GB, Ed Reed + Ray Lewis Ravens, Polamalu + Big Ben + Hines Ward Steelers, Larry Fitzgerald + Anquan Boldin + Kurt Warner Cardinals — across all 32 teams. Salary cap set to 2007 ($109M), contracts scaled to era dollars, league boots clean as a fresh 2007 season.

V1.1 update (Apr 30): Head coaches are real 2007 HCs (Belichick on NE, Holmgren on SEA, Coughlin on NYG, Petrino on ATL, etc.). Coordinators and position coaches are still auto-generated until v2 sources that data. V1 update (Apr 29): Rams play in St. Louis, Chargers in San Diego, Raiders in Oakland, Washington Redskins. The 2008 draft class no longer leaks 2026 NCAA names (Mendoza, Sanders, etc.) — generic filler names until v2 ships real 2007-era prospects. Powered by nflverse historical NFL roster data: ~1,700 real 2007 NFL players stamped onto their 2007 teams. Ratings inherit from the 2026 base so OVRs are a rough fit, not historically tuned. Depth-chart slot ordering is OVR-driven, so a real 2007 starter may show up as a backup if the 2026 lineup happened to bury that position. Real 2007 photos + real 2007 draft class are v2.
